Genealogy Entries Needed for County Fair

July 8 – The Open Class Genealogy/History Department invites the Union County public to enter exhibits at the Union County Fair in Afton.

Registrations for the Genealogy/History Department will be accepted from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 21 or from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 19 at the 4-H building on the fairgrounds. Registration rules are listed in the Union County Fair Book which can be obtained from the Union County Extension office in Creston. Open classes can also be viewed on the Union County Fair website at “http://www.unioncountyfairgrounds.com/open-class/.

Look at the show book for entry fees. There are junior courses and adult courses. Judging will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 22. Prizes will be awarded for the competition and the best of the show. Special beginner adult genealogy workshops will be offered free of charge during the fair in the genealogy/history department. They will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday July 24 and again at 6 p.m.

Children’s Day at the fair is Saturday, July 23, and the History/Genealogy Department will be sponsoring a coloring contest for young people up to age 16 from 9-6 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the first three in each age group.
