Photo by Michele Newbanks The Local History and Genealogy Archive at the Washington County Public Library, 418 Washington St., Marietta, will be closed for the foreseeable future. It was announced on Monday that the building had a major ceiling collapse and the entire ceiling will need to be replaced. A notice on the door states “Due to repair work, the local history and genealogy archives at the Washington County Public Library will be closed to the public until further notice. You can always contact the staff by phone at 740-376-2172 or by email at [email protected] Sorry for the inconvenience.” The library’s website states that the Local History and Genealogy Archive has an extensive collection of books, CDs, microfilm, and clippings that are of particular interest to those wishing to research their family history. While primarily focused on Washington County history, the collection also contains resources spanning the nation and parts of Europe. All records in the archive are not circulating and should be used at inside the building.
