MARQUETTE – Nancy Marie Claus, 79, of Marquette, and former resident of Big Bay, entered into eternal life Saturday morning, October 22, 2022, at home under the loving and comforting care of her family.
Born December 13, 1942, in Marquette, daughter of Nels and Ada (Dionne) Hume, Nancy grew up in Marquette and graduated from Graveraet High School, class of 1960. She was employed for a time by Beauchamp’s Photo Shop and Tiffany PhotoShop. , hand-tint wedding and graduation photos, while also undergoing training in darkroom photo printing. On October 25, 1969, Nancy married Count Joseph Claus and together the couple made their home in Big Bay, where Nancy was employed at Powell Township School with cooking and custodial duties. In 1998 the couple moved to Sands Township and later to Marquette in 2011. Nancy retired from MFC First National Bank and Trust Company in 1995 where she worked for eight years as a file clerk. His retirement years were happily spent helping to care for his grandsons from the day they were born. She has also been a mother and grandmother figure to many over the years. His hobbies and special interests, besides the grandsons, included family history and genealogy, taking walks in the woods and looking for birds, spending time at camp, and going out once a week with his friends from the Big Bay lunch. Nancy is a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Big Bay, currently a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Marquette and a member of Negaunee VFW Auxiliary 3165.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Earl Claus; daughters, Susan L. (William) Sands of Marquette Township and Diane M. (Michael) Ferzacca of Harvey; grandsons, Joseph and Luke Ferzacca, and Alex Denofre; his sister, Paulette Jo (Ron) Smart of Huntley, Illinois; and close friends Carol Burns, childhood friend since kindergarten, and Iris Burns, both of Big Bay, many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and stepfather, Earl Paul Bunker.
Following Nancy’s request, no service will be scheduled.
