WARREN — Richard James Hanson, 88, died Saturday, July 30, 2022, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 26, 1934 in Warren, son of Hugh James Hanson and Miriam Krahl Hanson. On November 4, 1978, he married Linda Monus, with whom he shared 43 years of love.

Richard was a graduate of the Howland High School Class of 1952. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the General Motors Institute. Richard worked as an engineer at Packard Electric, where he earned several patents in product design and development.

He was a lover of knowledge and accumulated an impressive personal library on a variety of subjects. When he wasn’t reading, he was drawing. Her natural artistic talent was enhanced by classes at the Cleveland Institute of Art. He also enjoyed genealogical research. His personal library contains a family history anthology, and he also assisted others in their research throughout his time at the Trumbull County Genealogical Society. Other passions included chess, cars, nature and sports.

Richard was a longtime member of the Warren First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Monus Hanson of Warren; daughter, Lara (Martin) Mahoney of Olmsted Falls; son, Hugh James (Alexis Katafiasz) Hanson of Toledo; daughter, Sara Elizabeth Hanson of Warren; grandson, Martin Dominick Mahoney III; and granddaughter, Kathleen “Katy” Mahoney.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Howard Hanson.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home in Warren, where Pastor Matt Darrin will officiate. Friends can call from 10 a.m. until Saturday service time at the funeral home.
